Based on insights from more than 200 security and IT professionals, HID’s 2024 State of Healthcare Security Report highlights the critical need for integrated digital and physical security in healthcare. The report cites a significant rise in cyber and physical security attacks, with ransomware incidents nearly doubling and workplace violence affecting 80% of nurses. 77% of respondents stressed the importance of digital-physical security integration; we’re seeing the evidence of that perspective as more and more industries adopt technologies like biometric authentication, automated alert systems and real-time location tracking to combat these threats.
Despite advancements, barriers such as budget constraints remain a major challenge, as cited by 74% of respondents. However, the report emphasizes the urgency of adopting a layered security approach to address the growing risks. By taking measures like replacing traditional ID badges with digital credentials and implementing integrated visitor management systems, healthcare facilities are evolving—ensuring the safety of staff and patients while minimizing financial and reputational risks associated with security breaches. As leaders in the security space working with various healthcare organizations, we have seen the impact of these challenges firsthand and have helped close security gaps with an AI-powered, mobile-first approach.
