In September, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) changed the security game by publishing a revised version of the NIST SP 800-82r3, Guide to Operational Technology (OT) Security. The guide calls for organizations to implement a more integrated approach to security that combines cyber, physical and IT domains — a concept we call security convergence. To combat an evolving threat landscape, Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), Chief Security Officers (CSOs) and their respective teams must work together to ensure all cyber-physical systems are in sync and protected. By removing the departmental silos, organizations can implement a cohesive, proactive security strategy that safeguards its people, assets and spaces.
