From Dorms to Boardrooms: Gen Z Is Rewriting Security
October 3, 2025
How Generational Shifts Are Driving Mobile Credential Demand
Apple didn’t start in the enterprise. They started with students. And that was on purpose.
“Launching mobile credentials in higher ed was brilliant,” said Matt Bennett, Vice President, Mobile Access & Strategic Partnerships at Alert Enterprise. “Now those students are entering the workforce, and they’re demanding the same experience.”
Gen Z doesn’t want to carry a plastic card. They want to tap their phone or watch, log in seamlessly, and get on with their day. As this generation joins enterprises, they bring expectations shaped by years of frictionless mobile experiences.
Sanjit Bardhan, Vice President & Head of Mobile at HID, called this out as a major shift: “Wearables, biometrics, and self-sovereign identity are all part of how younger generations think about security. They want control, privacy, and speed.”
Key takeaway:
The next generation of employees won’t tolerate outdated access control. If your security experience doesn’t feel like Apple Pay, they’ll wonder why.
